Aswang is the Philippine version of a vampire lol! Just kidding. Aswang refers to unearthly beings, flesh-eating/blood sucking eerie creatures such as vampires, werewolf, ghouls, etc... Something or someone dreadful with supernatural abilities.
In short, aswang are supernatural beings in English. I'm not really sure but if you need a definitive definition, you can view it's definition on wikipedia.

In Philippines, depending on where you live, you will hear a lot of stories about different kinds of aswang.
Some says they are real and some says it's just made up to scare children so that children will come home early and stay home during the night.
I never seen one but if you want to know if I believe in supernatural beings, my answer will be "yes!". Because when I was seven years old, I had a weird experience.
It was night time in the Philippines. We were living in Las Pinas at that time. I think that was year 1995. I was in the bedroom along with my siblings and my mother, who was writing a letter for my father who was working abroad back then when my younger brother asked me to get him a glass of water.
Feeling sleepy, I told him that he's big enough to get a water on his own. So he went and get himself a glass of water. I followed him with my eyes from where I was lying where I can totally see the house's dining area which is beside the kitchen where we get water to drink.
From there, I saw the window glass in the dining area move and at the same time, I heard a sound "tiktiktik" so I keep my eyes on the window. It seems like there was someone else who's keeping an eye on my brother. I just can't seem to see it but that I knew there was something there staring in from outside of the window.
When my brother was going back to the bedroom, a strange being followed him passing through that same window I was staring at. It was something invisible to the eye. Yet, I can tell there was something there. Something transparent that makes everything behind it looks blurry. Its shape is like human. It seems like floating, yet, I can tell where it's foot at. It's really a SUPERNATURAL!!
It followed my brother into the bedroom and when it reached the door, the bedroom's door close-opened 3 times!! When the door opened for the third time there was nothing at all. It seems like it's gone. So I look at my mother which was on another bed and still writing a letter for my father. I then closed and locked the door. It's weird that I didn't feel scared at all. I was calm. After that, I finally was able to sleep.
When I woke up in the morning, everyone else in the house was still asleep. So I checked the door and it was still locked, a proof that that night wasn't just a dream.
That's the reason why I'm interested in watching paranormal activities and real life horror stories. But I don't believe most of those stories because it seems like most of it are just exaggerated stories, claiming they've seen this and that which I find hard to believe.
I have a lot of weird experiences but I'm not going to write the rest here as it will make this blog too long. In the end, I've never seen them. Not even one! That maybe the reason why I don't believe those stories told by people that claimed they have seen a supernatural. Maybe it's just that I don't have the what they call "the third eye" that's why I can't see those supernatural beings.
Whenever I hear the word "aswang", the first thing that comes to my mind is the manananggal. Manananggal is a hideous, scary vampire-like creature, capable of severing its upper torso in order to fly into the night with huge bat-like wings to prey on its unsuspecting victims.
The reason why it's the first thing that comes to my mind is because of a scene from a Filipino movie, in which a maid respond to a knock on their door asking "who's there?". But no one respond on the maid's question so she decided to open the door. When she opened the door, she found out that there was no one there.
With a puzzled-look on her face, the maid looked from side to side as she shut the door close. But when the door was finally closed, She heard another knocked on the door. Angered by the annoying knocked, she quickly turn around and opened the door widely while saying something I can't remember (LOL) in a loud voice. Her eyes grew big and she froze in fear when she finally saw the one who was knocking at their door. It was a manananggal! hahaha!
That scene scared my soul out of me. No wonder I can still remember that scene even though I was too young when I watched it. I think that movie is "Manananggal in Manila" if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure though.
Maybe it's also the reason why I feel scared whenever I'm watching a film that has a manananggal on it when I was young. I'm not scared anymore though... because I'm no longer watching a film like that LOL!
I'm currently writing a novel that has an aswang in it.
It's not scary at all. It's genre are drama, comedy, slice of life and fantasy of course. It may not be well done as it's just my first but I'm trying to make it as dramatic as possible to make it as heart-touching as possible as I believe the world is connected with emotions.
The aswang there is my own version of aswang. I'm still making it up but it's likely dog-like. So maybe I'll just call it "Dogan" LOL!
I'm also planning to write a scary story in the future. Maybe after writing two or more stories because I want to be a good writer when I write something scary so it will scare the shit out of the readers hahaha!
